What can I say? I've been anticipating this film for a long long time and it doesn't disappoint. The film opens with the introduction of a bank heist and a cameo by William Fitchner. It also introduces new characters such as the Scarecrow who makes a brief appearance and of course Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent or "Two Face".
Whilst Heath Ledger's death is still in the public media, I'll talk about him first. His performance was actually really well done and I really enjoyed the way he spoke and carried himself. A fine last performance in my opinion. His jokes were quite funny and somewhat painful in some scenes, a true criminal mastermind that Joker!
Christian Bale did his Batman role well as usual. Although I did laugh a few times when I heard him speak as the Batman. It just sounded like he had been smoking waay too much.
In terms of the fighting and action scenes, I enjoyed most of them, but I watched the movie at IMAX and the screen is frickin' humongous! They just did too many close ups and at times (especially during the final fight with the Joker) it was a little confusing as to who was hitting who.
This movie sure did live up to expectations, it's a shame that Ledger passed away cos now I can't begin to imagine how they would do the next film without him! Poor Heath, may you rest in peace.

Children of Men
Imagine a world where there hasn't been a birth in 20 years. No children. That is the fictional world that Clive Owen has been thrown into.
I loved this movie particularly for it's insanely long shots that involves high degrees of action. I can't imagine how long it would've taken to do some of those shots perfectly. The cinematography was also spot on during those shots.
Clive Owen plays his usual sort of laid back, monologuing role, but this time it actually fits rather well and I thoroughly enjoyed his character throughout the film.
It also lands a spot at 163 on IMDB's top 250 movies of all time (as at 27 July 2008); a spot well deserved.

Chinatown
This was a really interesting film. I had to watch this film for my English 109 paper and I can definitely see why! It stars Jack Nicholson as J.J Gittes, a private investigator who is hired by a woman who suspects her husband is cheating on her.
It's a twisted film with lots of twists and turns, it's classed in the film noir genre, but it has elements of mystery in it. And there is, it keeps you guessing. Nicholson plays Gittes really well, a somewhat cocky and smart investigator, only doing his best to get to the bottom of the ordeal.
There are nice long shots with plenty of dialogue to keep the story moving and the pace of the action is well timed and adequate.
Overall this movie was great! Definitely going to be a favourite of mine and the American Film Institute would agree as they even selected the film for preservation.

3:10 to Yuma
I had been anticipating this film for a while. I'm not normally into Western's too, so I was quite impressed with the film. There's a good pace of action and suspense; enough to keep me wondering what was what.
Christian Bale plays Dan, a one legged war veteran really well. He's a likeable character whom one could probably relate to. Trying to make an honest living and provide for his family.
Russell Crowe plays a good baddie (Ben Wade) too. We all know his character is evil, but yet he seems to have this charisma about him that doesn't make him seem so bad.
In particular, I loved Ben Foster's character - Charlie Prince. He just fits in and plays the whole stereotypical psycho cowboy really well. He's dedicated to his leader (Crowe) and that southern accent was just awesome!
The cinematography was pretty good, good choice of shots and the action scenes looked wonderful. The only thing that wasn't too memorable was the soundtrack. It seemed to be a bit lacking in this department. Some more music/sound effects would've been really cool.
Overall this was a really good film, as I said earlier, I don't normally watch Western's, but I made an exception in this case. If you can get a hold of this movie, you won't be disappointed.

Hancock
This was a pretty interesting movie, I saw the trailer earlier in the year and it looked like a promising movie. The first half of the movie had plenty of laughs and was easy to understand and enjoy. Towards the second half, things got more serious and the laughs sorted ended there.
I can't help but feel that the ending was a little rushed, the whole idea that Charlize Theron and Will Smith's character are "superheroes" is a little weird, whats weirder is that they are over 3,000 years old and were previously married. And their supervillain counterparts are just ordinary humans really. Oh and did I mention that Theron and Smith's characters lose their powers when they are close to each other? Yikes!
The CGI and camera work was fantastic though, I particularly like the Train crash and Mary vs. Hancock scenes. Very very cool and well done.
This movie could definitely have been better in some areas, but due to the surge of super hero movies as of late, this is quite refreshing and different.

Kung Fu Panda
Yesterday was movie day/night and me and Tanesh went to go and see Kung Fu Panda, it was honestly a really good movie! It had plenty of "awesomeness" as Jack Black put it. There was an abundance of jokes and humour thrown in for good measure.
The fighting scenes were actually quite impressive also, I particularly loved the bridge fight and the Tao Long escape against the horde of Rhino's. Tao Long was just awesome there!
I was a little disappointed that Jackie Chan didn't get many lines in the movie though, all in all, I think he only had about 3 lines, but that didn't matter, his character still kicks ass.
Tanesh also pointed out that the characters look a lot like their real life counterparts. Jack Black is big, round and a funny guy, Lucy Liu as the snake had the same eyes, Jackie Chan and his monkey fighting ways, etc, etc.
Overall I really enjoyed this movie, it's great for kids and it's great for big kids! Even my parents want to see it... Once it's out of DVD of course!
